Familiarity gives us a sense of safety and continuity, but our attachment to it can also conceal a deeper fear of change and loss. We save things “for a rainy day,” struggle to let go of what has outlived its purpose, and invest emotionally in permanence even though we know that life does not work that way. Relationships change, people leave, children grow up, bodies age, and the worlds we carefully build inevitably transform. The challenge is not to stop becoming attached, but to learn how to love, connect with and fully enjoy what we have while knowing that, eventually, we may have to let it go.

An awareness of impermanence does not have to lead only to fear or grief; it can offer a different way of experiencing life. Awe, gratitude and presence allow us to recognise the beauty of a moment precisely because we know it will never exist in quite the same way again. Perhaps accepting change does not mean loving less, but learning to love without demanding permanence. What we lose does not necessarily disappear from within us; people and experiences continue through our memories, our actions, our relationships and the ways they have shaped us. What remains is not our ability to stop time, but the love and meaning we give to everything we are fortunate enough to have, however briefly.

The full article was originally published on the Psychology Portal – Psychology.gr.

Related services

You can read more about related services:

                    Individual Therapy

                    Group Therapy

                    Couples Therapy

                    Greeks Living Abroad and Migration

                    Organizational Psychology

[301,305,308,310
475,326,368,472,516,397,335,527
post-10651","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-self-awareness-and-personal-development","category-grief-loss-and-life-transitions","category-mental-health-mental-disorders-and-resilience","category-psychology-of-everyday-life","tag-attachment","tag-change","tag-gratitude","tag-impermanence","tag-loss","tag-meaning-in-life","tag-resilience","tag-self-awareness
["GET
