Yes, people can change but wanting to change is not enough. Meaningful change requires motivation, self-awareness, practice and, perhaps most importantly, personal responsibility.
Change can begin in different places. We can change how we behave, how we interpret what happens to us, or how we respond to our emotions. A different behavior can gradually influence the way we think and feel, just as changing the way we understand a situation can alter the way we respond to it.
The difficulty is that we often want someone else to change first: our partner, parent, child, sibling or colleague. Yet the only person we can truly change is ourselves. And because none of us exists in isolation, changing our own responses can significantly alter the dynamics of the relationships around us.

Research also suggests that personality is not completely fixed. Simply wishing to become different is rarely enough, but structured interventions, therapy and the repeated practice of new behaviours can produce measurable and lasting change. Perhaps, then, the real question is not “Can people change?” but “Are we willing to do what change requires?” Because “that’s just who I am” can easily become an excuse. Change does not mean waking up one morning as a completely different person. It means making small, different choices often enough that, over time, they begin to reshape the way we think, feel and relate to others.
A leopard may not be able to change its spots. People, however, can learn to live differently with theirs — and sometimes, over time, transform far more than they thought possible. But this does not mean we must continue to live in the same way.

The full article was originally published on the Psychology Portal – Psychology.gr.

Related services

You can read more about related services:

                    Individual Therapy

                    Group Therapy

                    Couples Therapy

                    Family Therapy

                    Organizational Psychology

                    Greeks Living Abroad and Migration

[301,308,310
421,327,418,462,461,432,527,526
post-10642","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-self-awareness-and-personal-development","category-mental-health-mental-disorders-and-resilience","category-psychology-of-everyday-life","tag-alternative-analysis","tag-behavior-change","tag-emotional-regulation","tag-personal-growth","tag-personality","tag-psychotherapy","tag-self-awareness","tag-self-improvement
["GET
