It can look like fear, disorientation, physical tension, and the sense that the ground has disappeared beneath us. During war, loss, sudden upheaval, or profound uncertainty, it is not only our circumstances that are shaken, but also the roles, identities, and stories that once gave our lives coherence. The body often reacts before the mind has had time to make sense of what is happening: breathing changes, the stomach tightens, thinking becomes clouded, and fear and sadness may arrive at the same time. In moments like these, the task is not to appear strong, but to stay in contact with the experience without being completely consumed by it.

Stability in crisis does not come from rigidity, but from rootedness and flexibility. It comes from noticing what is happening within us, returning to the present, and reconnecting with what is still real and available around us. Grounding does not remove the difficulty, but it creates enough space for us not to become entirely identified with it. And within that space, something new can gradually begin to emerge: a different sense of self, deeper relationships, new directions, and sometimes a renewed sense of meaning. Perhaps, then, when everything seems to be falling apart, it is not the “strongest” who prevail, but those who can bend without breaking and remain open enough to discover what new life may begin to take shape through the cracks.

The full article was originally published on the Psychology Portal – Psychology.gr.

Related services

You can read more about related services:

                    Individual Therapy

                    Group Therapy

                    Greeks Living Abroad and Migration

                    Organizational Psychology

[308,305,302,301
344,397,430,312,491,402,449,324
post-10626","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mental-health-mental-disorders-and-resilience","category-grief-loss-and-life-transitions","category-life-abroad","category-self-awareness-and-personal-development","tag-grounding","tag-meaning-in-life","tag-mental-health","tag-mental-toughness","tag-post-traumatic-growth","tag-stress","tag-trauma","tag-uncertainty
["GET
