It helps us trust that effort has meaning, that actions have consequences, and that life follows some kind of moral order. But when we are confronted with experiences that clearly challenge that belief—a serious illness, a tragedy, or a profound injustice—we may reach for simple explanations that restore a sense of predictability. Sometimes, that means blaming the very people who have been harmed. Our need to believe that the world makes sense can therefore distance us from compassion and from a more honest understanding of how complex and unfair life can sometimes be.

Accepting that life does not always operate according to perfect justice does not mean giving up on hope, responsibility, or moral values. It means becoming more able to tolerate uncertainty, recognize the complexity of human experience, and resist the pull of easy moral judgments. The more we are able to see a situation from another person’s perspective, the more likely we are to respond to suffering with empathy, solidarity, and meaningful support rather than blame, distance, or the reassuring belief that people simply “get what they deserve.”

The full article was originally published on the Psychology Portal – Psychology.gr.

Related services

You can read more about related services:

                    Individual Therapy

                    Group Therapy

[310,301
348,405,485,508,288,435,482,507
post-10566","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-psychology-of-everyday-life","category-self-awareness-and-personal-development","tag-cognitive-dissonance","tag-compassion","tag-critical-thinking","tag-empathy","tag-just-world-bias","tag-just-world-bias-2","tag-social-psychology","tag-victim-integration
["GET
