An entire world built around shared roles, routines, plans, and a particular vision of the future can begin to fall apart with it. Divorce can be experienced as a profound loss, unsettling a person’s sense of security and leaving them face to face with a difficult question: Who am I now, when the life I knew and part of the identity I built within it—no longer exists in the same way? Sadness, fear, confusion, and the need to find answers often become part of a journey that is not only about separating from another person, but also about coming face to face with ourselves.

Adjusting to life after divorce does not mean forgetting what happened, erasing the past, or trying to return to who we were before. It means gradually changing our relationship with the loss, allowing difficult emotions to have their place, and no longer building our entire sense of identity around a story of pain. Through this process, space can begin to open up for a new life narrative—one in which what has been lost remains part of our personal history without defining who we are or who we may still become. Because the end of a relationship can be an important chapter in our lives without having to become our entire story.

The full article was originally published on the Psychology Portal – Psychology.gr.

Related services

You can read more about related services:

                    Couples Therapy

                    Individual Therapy

                    Family Therapy

[306,305,301
338,426,359,407,401,446,490,516,396,312,462,432,513,440,527
post-10515","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-relationships-and-communication","category-grief-loss-and-life-transitions","category-self-awareness-and-personal-development","tag-acceptance","tag-breakup","tag-divorce","tag-emotions","tag-grief","tag-identity","tag-life-transitions-2","tag-loss","tag-meaning","tag-mental-toughness","tag-personal-growth","tag-psychotherapy","tag-re-meaning-meaning-reconstruction","tag-relationships","tag-self-awareness
["GET
